What to do after a car accident in Mexico with your Southbound policy
Get to safety and call 911 if anyone is hurt. Then call Chubb’s claims line before you move the car or leave Mexico: 800 801 0117 from a Mexican phone, +52 81 8864 9322 from any phone, or +1 877 699 6679 toll-free from the US and Canada. A Chubb adjuster comes to you, handles the police report and the other driver; never pay cash or sign anything at the scene. The line works 24 hours a day in English and Spanish, and it is the same Chubb service behind every Tourist Auto policy — Timi is your Mexican licensed agent, and we help you with documents and follow-up.
Call Chubb claims from the US or Canada: +1 877 699 6679From Mexico call 800 801 0117. Keep your policy number at hand; the same numbers are printed in your policy email.
The facts, in one table
| Claims line from Mexico | 800 801 0117 (Mexican phone or a US/Canadian cell roaming on a Mexican network) |
|---|---|
| International dialing | +52 81 8864 9322 |
| Toll-free from the US and Canada | +1 877 699 6679 — to report, follow up or ask about a claim |
| Hours and language | 24 hours, 7 days, English and Spanish. The service is provided by Chubb Seguros México, the insurer that issues your policy. |
| What to have ready | Policy number, insured and driver names, exact location, plates and details of the other vehicle, a valid driver’s license and the vehicle registration. |
| Deadline | Report while you are still in Mexico, before crossing back. Clause 9 of the Chubb Tourist Auto general conditions makes it the insured’s obligation; a claim reported after leaving the country can be denied. |
| Roadside assistance | Towing after a covered loss is included up to the sublimit printed in your policy; roadside help in Mexico follows the assistance terms of the policy. Use the same claims line. |
| Legal assistance and bail bond | Included in the Tourist Auto policy. The claims line activates a lawyer and, when needed, the bail bond under the policy terms. |
| Repairs in the USA or Canada | Allowed under the policy specification. Chubb authorizes the shop and the estimate first; do not repair before authorization. |
| Deductible | Only if you bought damage and theft coverage: fixed $500 USD damage / $1,000 USD theft, or variable 5% of the value (min. $400) damage / 10% (min. $800) theft, as printed in your policy. Liability and medical expenses carry no deductible. |

Step by step
- Get to safety. Turn on your hazard lights. If anyone is injured or there is immediate danger, call 911.
- Stay put. Do not move the vehicle or leave the scene unless it is unsafe. If you must move it, tell Chubb the new location.
- Call Chubb. From Mexico 800 801 0117; from any phone +52 81 8864 9322; from the US or Canada +1 877 699 6679. Give your policy number, names, exact location and the other vehicle’s plates.
- Wait for the adjuster. The Chubb adjuster files the report and deals with the authorities and the other driver. Do not pay cash, do not sign a private agreement and do not admit fault in writing: the insurer never asks for cash at the scene, and a private settlement can void the coverage.
- Document everything. Photos of both vehicles and the scene, the other driver’s license, plates and phone. Write down the claim number Chubb gives you.
- Theft. File a report with the Mexican authorities and call Chubb the same day.
- Before leaving Mexico. Make sure the claim is reported and you have a claim number. Reporting after you cross back can result in denial.
- Repairs and follow-up. Chubb authorizes the shop and estimate, in Mexico or in the US/Canada per your policy. For follow-up call +1 877 699 6679; Timi helps with documents at timi@timi.mx.
Is the claims service really 24/7?
Yes. Chubb Seguros México runs the claims and assistance line 24 hours a day, every day, in English and Spanish, with adjusters across Mexico. Every Tourist Auto policy, whoever sells it, uses this service: the insurer, not the website that sold you the policy, is who shows up and pays. Timi issues your policy in Mexico, where the claim happens, and stays with you for documents and follow-up.
What if the other driver has no insurance?
Around seven in ten drivers in Mexico carry no insurance. If your policy includes the Platinum coverage, your deductible is waived when the responsible driver is identified and uninsured, and there is an extra medical limit for your passengers. Without Platinum, your own deductible applies to repairs of your vehicle.
What your policy covers when something happens
Third-party liability up to the limit printed on your policy ($100,000 USD base, $500,000 with RC Plus), medical expenses for occupants, legal assistance and bail bond, and roadside assistance. If you bought the full package: damage and total theft of your vehicle with the deductible shown on the policy. Liability-only policies do not cover damage to or theft of your own vehicle. The exact limits are the ones in your issued policy.
