The short version

Short answer with the number: yes, your ATV or UTV with a US or Canadian title can be insured in Mexico, and the Chubb policy costs $23.01 USD for one day, $53.07 for a week and $190.00 for a full year with liability only, all of Mexico, fees included (measured live in Chubb's system on 2026-09-18). Since September 18, 2026 it is quoted, paid and issued online in the Timi chat, like a car or a motorcycle: no advisor, no office hours.

What changed

Until September 17 Chubb's system quoted ATVs but could not issue them (the make catalog for vehicle type 8 was empty). Chubb loaded it on September 18: Can-Am, Polaris, CF Moto, Arctic Cat, Bombardier, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki and "Other". A rider in Phoenix can now buy the policy for the dunes at eleven on a Saturday night.

Where you need it: Rocky Point, San Felipe, San Carlos, Baja

The beach and dune roads around Puerto Peñasco, the washes and the Highway 5 access roads in San Felipe, the tracks around San Carlos and Kino Bay, and the Baja race courses are public roads under Mexican law. The rule is the same as for a car: liability coverage from an insurer authorized in Mexico, on every trip. Your US or Canadian ATV policy is not accepted as proof of financial responsibility in Mexico.

All prices in USD, Chubb Tourist Auto, territory "all of Mexico", policy fee included, no Mexican tax on this product. Three things move the price: the days, the declared value of the ATV (maximum $35,000 USD) and the territory: Baja California, Baja California Sur and Sonora only are cheaper than all of Mexico.

What the policy covers, and the one thing it does not

How to buy it in 3 minutes

Open the Timi chat and say "Can-Am Maverick 2024, one week, San Felipe". You will need the title or registration (VIN, registration number, state or province), the driver's name and address, the dates and where you ride. You see the price before giving any personal data; pay by card and the Chubb PDF arrives by email. The policy cannot be bought after an accident has happened.

Tip

Bringing two or three machines? Each ATV needs its own policy: the quote is per vehicle, not per group. And if the ATV travels on a trailer behind your truck, declare the trailer on the truck's own Mexican policy for the road trip; the ATV policy covers the ATV when you ride it.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mexican insurance required for an ATV or UTV?

Yes. Mexican law requires liability coverage from an insurer authorized in Mexico for any motor vehicle on public roads, and the beach, dune and town roads around Rocky Point, San Felipe or San Carlos are public roads. Your US or Canadian policy is not accepted there.

How much does Mexican ATV insurance cost?

Liability only, all of Mexico: $23.01 USD for 1 day, $53.07 for 7 days, $138.00 for 30 days and $190.00 for a year. With physical damage and theft on a UTV declared at $15,000 USD: $30.71 a day, $107.00 a week, $412.26 a year. Measured live in Chubb's system on 2026-09-18; your quote depends on the value, the days and the territory.

Can I buy it online right now, at night or on a weekend?

Yes. Since September 18, 2026 the ATV/UTV policy is issued online in the chat at timi.mx/tourist: tell the chat your ATV, the value, the dates and where you ride, pay by card and the Chubb PDF arrives in about 3 minutes.

Does it cover medical expenses for me or my passenger?

No. On the ATV/UTV vehicle type Chubb does not offer occupant medical expenses by design; ride with your own health or travel medical insurance that covers Mexico. Third-party liability ($100,000 USD) is included.

What is the maximum value I can insure?

$35,000 USD declared value for physical damage and theft, in any territory. Above that, liability-only still applies.

My brand is not in the list (Hisun, Massimo, Segway, Kayo)…

Choose "Other" as the make and write the real brand and model in the model field; that is what gets printed on the policy. No brand is left out.

What if the ATV travels on a trailer behind my truck?

Insure the ATV for the days you actually ride it. While it rides on the trailer, declare the trailer on the towing vehicle's own Mexican policy; the ATV policy covers the ATV when it is being driven.
